RIVERSIDERECORDS

New York CityEst. 1953Jazz

Orrin Keepnews and Bill Grauer founded Riverside in New York in 1953, with a mission to document the full spectrum of jazz from traditional to contemporary. Riverside signed Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans during their defining creative periods and produced recordings of extraordinary intimacy and musical depth. The label folded in 1964 following Grauer's death but left a catalog that remains indispensable for jazz collectors and producers.

Producer Notes

Bill Evans's Riverside recordings are among the finest examples of piano-trio recording ever made — the spatial relationship between piano, bass, and drums on records like Waltz for Debby is a masterclass in acoustic recording. These records sample beautifully for their harmonic richness and dynamic range.
