Ernest Anthony Puente Jr., known as Tito Puente, was the most famous bandleader and timbalero in Latin music history, a Bronx-born Puerto Rican who brought Afro-Cuban rhythms to mass American audiences and was a central figure in the mambo and cha-cha explosions of the 1950s. His 100+ album catalogue contains some of the most infectious Latin big band recordings ever made.
