Producer Profile
Marlon Williams, known as Marley Marl, is one of the founding fathers of sampled hip hop production. His accidental discovery of the drum sample technique — recording a drum hit from a vinyl record into an Emu SP-12 — essentially invented the boom bap template. His Juice Crew productions for Roxanne Shanté, Big Daddy Kane, and Rakim defined the late 1980s New York sound.
