Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno essentially invented the genre of ambient music with his Ambient series, reframing recorded music as environment rather than performance. His work with Roxy Music, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and U2 made him the defining studio producer of the art-rock era. As an electronic composer he pioneered generative systems and tape manipulation.
