Producer Profile
Art Blakey was the drummer and bandleader of the Jazz Messengers, whose constantly rotating roster served as the definitive hard bop finishing school for jazz. Over four decades he introduced Clifford Brown, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, and Wynton Marsalis to the world. His drumming style — aggressive, swinging, and deeply polyrhythmic — is one of the most sampled in hip hop.
