AtlanticRecords—R&B
FOUNDED 1947 · NEW YORK CITY, US
ABOUT
Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson founded Atlantic in New York in 1947, building one of the most comprehensive catalogs in American popular music across R&B, soul, rock, and jazz. Atlantic signed Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, and dozens of other definitive artists, operating with a rare combination of commercial savvy and genuine artistic vision. The label's recordings span multiple decades and genres, making it one of the deepest single catalogs for producers.
PRODUCER NOTES
Atlantic's production quality is remarkably consistent across eras — whether the stripped-back R&B of the late 1940s or the lavish orchestral soul of the 1970s. The label's A-list session musicians (The Wrecking Crew, Fame Gang, Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section) define what "professional groove" means.
