ABOUT
Founded by Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff in 1939, Blue Note became the definitive home of hard bop and modal jazz in the 1950s and 1960s. The label's Rudy Van Gelder-engineered sessions produced some of the most sonically precise recordings in jazz history. Blue Note catalogs remain among the most deeply sampled archives in hip hop and neo-soul production.
PRODUCER NOTES
Rudy Van Gelder's engineering gave Blue Note records a warm, punchy midrange and a drum sound that translates directly to a sampler. The space between the notes on late-period Blue Note sides is as useful as the notes themselves.
