Peanut Butter Wolf founded Stones Throw in Los Angeles in 1996, building the most critically respected home for underground and alternative hip hop in the era following the golden age. The label signed Madlib, MF DOOM, J Dilla, and Dam-Funk, becoming the label most associated with the crate-digging, sample-based approach to production. Stones Throw represents a direct lineage from classic hip hop sampling aesthetics into the contemporary era.
