Coldcut's Matt Black and Jonathan More founded Ninja Tune in London in 1990 as an outlet for sample-based electronic music and instrumental hip hop. The label became the home of trip hop, abstract beats, and leftfield electronic music through releases by Roots Manuva, Amon Tobin, and Blockhead. Ninja Tune's catalog represents the fullest exploration of the intersection between hip hop sampling culture and electronic production.
