About
Wolfgang Voigt and Michael Mayer launched Kompakt in Cologne in 1993 as a record shop before developing into one of the defining labels of minimal techno and microhouse. Kompakt's aesthetic (hypnotic repetition, subtle textural variation, meticulous arrangement) defined the sound of European techno for a decade. The label's catalog encompasses both club-oriented techno and more introspective ambient electronic music.
