CrateDrop Pro: what it adds, what stays free, and where the money goes
CrateDrop is free to dig and will stay that way: playback, saves, crates, notes, the producer tools, the flip challenge and the journey. Pro is an optional plan for people who dig every day and want more control over what comes up. Here is exactly what it adds.
What Pro adds
- Original pressings only: skips reissues, represses and remasters, so you land on a record as it first came out.
- Independent labels only: skips Columbia, EMI, RCA, Warner, Polydor and the other majors, so the small labels come up.
- Skip compilations: no Various Artists and no compilation releases.
- Skip styles: never land on the styles you do not want, inside any genre.
- Never repeat: skips every record in your whole dig history, not only this session.
- A 25-record weekly crate every Monday instead of 10.
- Rising: the records CrateDrop diggers started saving this week, before anyone else notices.
What it costs
Pro is €36 a year, which works out at €3 a month, or €4 monthly. Once you have dug 100 records with a free account, Pro switches on by itself for a free week, no card needed, and it simply ends if you do not pick a plan. Payments go through Dodo Payments, which handles cards and VAT.
Where the money goes
Today CrateDrop runs on free plans for hosting, accounts and email, plus a small computer at home that does the record lookups. The domain costs about €14 a year. Pro money goes first to paid hosting once traffic outgrows the free plans, then to time to build what diggers ask for. There are no ad networks and no data sales.
